How We Become Addicted To Stress And How It Affects Our Body ~ By Dorota

I was sitting outside of the coffee shop in Tobermory, enjoying the weather, writing in my journal, and just having a good time, when I heard few women passing and having a loud happy conversation. They were walking with two dogs. One of the woman said (about the dog) “She is focused so hard on the problem, she can’t see the solution that’s right in front of her face”. I had to write that down. That was an AHA moment for me. I could see my life in a bigger picture.
What does that have to do with stress and its effect on our body?
Our physical body is an amazing creation. One we do not need to control. We breathe, digest food, pump blood, etc. At the same time we want to stay in touch, and listen to it to stay healthy.
We react to our surroundings, people and situations. Each reaction stimulates a chemical release. When we do not process our experiences, we hold it in our field and the Universe brings more of that for us to experience.
With time our body becomes addicted to those chemicals and we will find a way by creating a situation to release the chemicals we are craving.
When we are stressed we release adrenaline and cortisol which shoots down all our other glands and the digestive system, and our blood pressure rises up. We are then ready to fight or run.
Over time, when we are constantly in fight or flight mode, our system turns acidic and it starts to break down. We gain weight, we have no energy. We become sick and age faster. Many of us don’t even know that we are in this cycle.
When we listen to our body we can take care of it. We can give it rest when it needs rest, and we give it fuel when it needs fuel.
Thankfully our amazing bodies regenerate on their own. Every single cell in our body regenerates. It takes a different amount of time for different parts of our body, but eventually we have a brand new body.
How is it that we keep experiencing old injuries and cannot recover from illnesses? Science tells us, it is because of cell memory. The old cells pass on the memory on to the new cells. To erase the memory we need to find a way to bring our body to the neutral state, where it can find a solution to recover.
It is proven that meditation, relaxation treatments, and breathing techniques can help us achieve that neutral state. When we sleep we are in a neutral state.
A Scaler Wave laser is also proven to bring our body to that state. A Scaler Wave laser is a combination of low level laser, and patented Scaler Wave laser. It infuses the Scaler field of energy that brings the cells in the still point, the neutral state where the polarity collapses, and the memories are erased.

This low level laser donates ATP to the cells (stress decreases ATP which causes aging). Energized cells inform the body how to heal.

Understanding Your Dreams ~ By Anne Zulian

Dreams have been important to mankind for thousands of years.  Ancient races of man used dreams to give guidance and forewarning.  Before modern times many people, leaders or gifted in the art, had the ability to interpret dreams and use them to improve their lives.  There are references to dreams in Egyptian writings, the Bible, Shamanism and modern Psychology literature.
Modern mankind has, for the most part, forgotten what their dreams mean and we brush them off as a result of the movie we saw last night or the late night snack we had.
Dream interpretation in the modern age is an evolving science in which signs and symbols from our dreams can be used to direct us, just like in ancient times.  We receive information about our jobs, relationships, emotions, health and our spiritual path in this lifetime. Dreams can tell us why we are here, and what path we were meant to follow.
Many of us have experienced dreams with awe, fear or excitement.  We wonder if this dream is a sign, or a warning?  We wonder if what we dreamt will happen, has to happen, or can be changed? Or we just think it was the most bizarre event, and ignore the creativity that may be contained in the dream.
Dreams can give us warnings of health issues years in advance, allowing us to adjust to a healthier lifestyle both in our daily habits and our relationships. They not only warn us, but give us the solution to problems, and inspire us to create.
Dreams also reveal the spiritual gifts we are all born with.  We receive guidance from our higher self, from guides and angels. Many are told over and over in their dreams how to work toward spiritual enlightenment, or how do resolve karmic issues in this life. But without knowing the message it goes unheeded, and sometimes scares us.
All dreams are multi-layered and may contain several messages in one.
Many different types of dreams exist, too many to cover in this first installment. In the future I will explain the different types of dreams, and some of the more common interpretations of those dreams.
With the next installment I will begin to offer to interpret a few dreams on an email in only basis. If you send me a dream remember to write it down right after waking exactly as it happened.  Don’t add to it or edit it even if it seems strange.

Dowsing For Health And Well Being

“Dowsing For Health & Well Being” is the theme for the sequence of three workshops that I facilitate at the Circle of Light Wellness Centre and Healing Arts Academy.

There is nothing magical or mystical about working with dowsing tools and you do not have to be a psychic to do so.

Some say that dowsing is an “intuitive Technology” that links with one’s nervous-muscular system to produce vibrational signals.

Some say that just as radios pick up information from unseen radio waves, a dowsing tool responds like a powerful antenna that receives information from the vibrations and energy waves emitted by people, places, thoughts and things.

Some say that dowsing tools act as transmitters for one’s brain as the brain’s inherent electrical current acts as a receiver.

Some say that dowsing tools create a bridge between the logical and intuitive aspects of one’s mind.

Some say that dowsing tools connect them with a higher power and call it “divining" as some information is believed to come from Divine sources.


Anyone can learn to dowse:

• to find answers to questions that are asked.

•   to determine solutions and find the one which best serves.

•   to apply lifestyle changes instantaneously.

•   to adjust their environment in order to attain a healthier lifestyle.

•   to change the energy of the Earth, to help it rejuvenate and heal.

• to strengthen their connection with the Higher Dimensions.

• to work internally to make changes to help their body heal itself.

•   to re-program aspects of their conscious and subconscious minds.

•   to change and/or adjust their belief systems.

• to clear and correct (heal, improve …) relationships.

•   to attract concepts, ideas, people and objects into one’s life.

•   to adjust the energy flow through their physical & subtle bodies.

When dowsing, the sky is not the limit as the only limits are your beliefs and your imagination.

In respect to energy balancing sessions (healings), dowsing enhances one’s ability to connect quickly and effectively to the healing energies of the Universal Life Forces.

“Umm… do I have to take my clothes off?” What to Expect in a Reiki/IET Treatment by Pearl Mendonça

Thinking about booking an energy treatment?  You have come to the right place ☺.  At Circle of Light Wellness Centre, we have many practitioners offering a range of modalities to support you and your well-being!  
People come for energy treatments for many reasons – whether that is relaxation, calm, releasing blocks, managing stress, connecting with their body, self-care; or when they are in transition – so managing the emotions of grief, loss, separation, or getting clarity on careers, new projects; or when they are managing an illness and looking for support with that; or lots of other places on the well-being continuum.  Energy treatments can be a wonderful time to recalibrate, and get in touch and in tune with your body for your well-being.  I wanted to share with you some information about energy treatments, from my experience, to help you prepare for your session.
First off, you may be wondering who I am.  My name is Pearl, and I am one of newer practitioners at Circle of Light.  I offer Reiki and IET at CoL, and I also staff the desk on Saturdays from 10-2.  You can read more about my experiences HERE.

As per the title of this blog, the clothes removal question is usually one of the make-it-or-break-it questions I get when chatting with folks about energy treatments, and I really appreciate when people ask.  I know the thought can be uncomfortable and challenging for some.   In fact, it’s usually one of MY first questions for any bodywork treatments I am receiving as well.
In my experience, working with Reiki and Integrated Energy Therapy (IET) as my primary modalities, removal of clothes is NOT an expectation for these types of energy treatments.  However, for your treatment, it is great if you can wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes, as that will allow you to feel less restricted and more relaxed when on the table.
There’s a table?  Right, so perhaps we should back up a bit.  In booking an energy treatment with a practitioner at Circle of Light, you can expect to have your treatment in a room that feels clear and light, with a massage table set up, with pillows/sheets/blankets on top (that you can use or not use), relaxing music and low light/candles.  How the room is set up is really dependent on the practitioner, so it is great to not only find a practitioner that you feel comfortable and relaxed with, but also a space that you feel comfortable and relaxed in.  Much of the time, these go hand in hand.
Now, all of the things that we typically associate with energy treatments really are not absolutely essential; moreso just nice things to have :)  Technically, for an energy treatment, you need a practitioner, a person interested in receiving the treatment, a mildly quiet/private place and yep, that’s about it!

Before getting on the table, most practitioners will get you to fill out a consent form of some sort, so that you have an understanding of what you can reasonably expect from the treatment and the practitioner can then answer any questions you have.  As well, a practitioner may ask if there are particular things that you wanted to focus on during the course of your treatment, any intentions that you have.  Perhaps this could be some explanation for the reasons you booked the treatment, or a discussion about things that have been happening in your life that were on your mind.  It could also be a check-in – how are you today, what’s your day been like etc.  Personally, I find this type of beginning to be really helpful for myself as a practitioner, but also I find it helps the person receiving get into a mindset of where they are at, and begin the session with a ‘knowing’ connection.  Let’s be honest – it is also rare in this day and age for someone to ask you how you are doing and really stay/genuinely care to listen to the answer.  So, in some ways, this is often the beginning of the therapeutic process.
After that discussion is complete, and the person feels comfortable, it’s time to get on the table, and get comfortable, settled – figure out if you are too cold, too warm, the music is too loud, or you need a pillow under your knees etc – very practical things.
For myself, as the person is settling themselves, I typically invite them to take a few deep breaths while I take a moment to centre.  I cannot stress how important it is for the practitioner to be present and connected during treatments.  However, it is really easy not to be – practitioners can be busy people as well and all have lives outside of their work, like everyone else.  It does make a difference though – showing up for people with mind, body and spirit centered, holding the space for their energy and highest good is so key to creating a space for any relaxation/healing to happen.  That said, it is never about the practitioner’s skill level during treatments, so this is not an ego-based, almighty healer kind of thing – it is really just about being a supportive presence and being there for the person, as they facilitate their own process.
For both Reiki and IET, the touch that is used is a light pressure on the body (the areas of which I will talk about shortly).  Practitioners typically check-in with folks about their comfort level with touch before starting – so if a person was really uncomfortable with someone’s hands on them lightly, or they had particular areas that were sensitive, we could figure out what would work best for them.  As a general rule, hands are on the body, except for the throat and places that a bathing suit would cover – in case you were thinking about that!  The other thing is that folks are always welcome to share during the session if something is working for them, or not, touch-wise – so that feedback and communication does happen during the treatment, and is encouraged.  Interestingly, I find that during treatments, people are so appreciative of being touched in a calm, caring and supportive way – that it is often very welcomed.
Sessions can range from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours – which allows time to be connected and to do a thorough ‘assessment’ and re-balance in all parts of the body, as needed.  Personally, I like to start at the head for treatments (unless I am told by the person, or intuitively guided, to go somewhere else).  Not a surprise, but the head is often the place with the most activity, and to have the head and mind relax right from the start really helps with the rest of the treatment.  From there, in Reiki, I typically will focus my attention on the energy centres (chakras) – so there are 7 major ones down the centre of the body – and then the arms, legs, feet.  I mentioned intuitively guided, because for my practice as I was taught, I try to ‘listen’ to the communication the person’s body is giving me, to guide me to where to move to next.  If I am not getting anything, and that’s ok, I’ll just move down one side of the body, and then down the other side, head to feet.  In IET, there is particular cellular memory areas of the body focused on during the treatment.
During an energy treatment, the person receiving may feel heat under the places where the practitioner’s hands are.  This is pretty standard – it may be an indication of an area that needs some attention or an imbalance present.  The person could also feel tingling or fluttering, and that sensation can happen in the spot where the practitioner’s hands are, or in another part of the body that is being activated (which is always interesting!).  As well, emotions can come up for people on certain parts of the body – laughing, crying, anger, etc – these are all energy releases, and are perfectly normal, and it is great to let yourself express those emotions.  
Sometimes, there isn’t anything to feel, except calm and relaxed – for the most part, we try to encourage folks to not ‘think’ too much or reason out what’s happening in their body, and really just get into being present in their body (vs. staying in their mind).  Finally, some people fall asleep during treatments, and that’s o.k.~ believe me, I have done it many times, and the treatments still “work”! :)
After a treatment, we would encourage folks to drink a lot of water (to continue the clearing process), rest (if possible) and be cognizant if things come up (as sometimes emotions get released post-treatment) and then find those outlets in your life that feel nurturing (whether that is talking to a friend, taking a bath, journalling, getting outside in nature).  And there it is!
